Starting in fall, monarch butterflies in western United States migrate to the coast of California where they spend winter months, November to February. Three best monarch butterfly sanctuaries are Pismo Beach, Pacific Grove and Santa Cruz.

Presidents’ Day weekend we headed down to Santa Cruz on California central coast. In the winter months, it’s a great time to see marine life – sea otters, sea lions, harbor seals, and the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk is a year-round destination.

Last weekend we zipped down for a strawberry day in Watsonville (situated between Santa Cruz and Monterey CA). We planned to go to the annual Watsonville Strawberry Festival, but first we stopped at Gizdich Ranch to pick strawberries.
